A Challenge Coin is a small coin or medallion, bearing an organization’s insignia or emblem and carried by the organization’s members. Furthermore, challenge coins are a means of proving membership and a means of enhancing morale. In addition, service members love collecting various challenge coins. In practice, unit commanders honor a special achievement of a unit member by presenting them with a challenge coin.
What is the Challenging process?
The tradition of a challenge is the most common way to ensure that members are carrying their unit’s coin. Additionally, a “Coin Check” is the act of an organization member loudly announcing a challenge. The challenge, which can be made at any time, begins with the challenger drawing his/her coin, and slapping or placing the coin on the table or bar. When challenging other members of the organization everyone must immediately produce the coin. Anyone failing to do so must buy a round of drinks for everyone else who has their challenge coin. However, should everyone challenged be able to produce their coin, the challenger must buy a round of drinks for the group.
